Lena Marie Townsend, 88, of Marion passed away Sunday afternoon, June 27, 2010 at Heartland of Marion.
She was born November 27, 1921 in Kenova, West Virginia to the late James Thomas and Bell (Harris) Preston.
On October 8, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio she married John Taylor Townsend who preceded her in death.
Lena was a United States Navy Veteran. She served during World War II served as a Pharmacist Mate 3rd class. She was also a member of a local Marion VFW. She enjoyed cooking, oil painting, crocheting, and sewing.
She is served by two sons, Larry Douglas Townsend of Columbus, and James Edward (Kimberly) Townsend of Marion; two daughters, Patricia Denise Townsend of Marion, and Linda Hook of Prospect; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, Charley, Wayne, Dennis, and Leroy; and five sisters, Georgia Chapman, Elizabeth White, Laura McDaniel, Virginia Preston, and Lindell Marcum.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 11:00 am at Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Pastor Keith Irey will officiate the service. The family will greet friends and loved ones an hour prior to the service.
