Carmella M. Lowry (Britz), 89, of Marion

Carmella M. Lowry (Britz), Marion, peacefully passed away at the age of 89, surrounded by her loved ones, on July 21, 2010.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard P Lowry, Sr., by her parents, Concetta and Sebastian Britz and her brothers: Mickey, Tony, Joe and Sam.

Carmella will be sadly missed by her son, Richard (Susan) Lowry of Worthington; two daughters, Carole Ann (Patrick) McNamara-Taylor and Pamela (Thomas) Kokott of Canada; three grandchildren: Thomas (Paula) Lowry, Angela Borland and Toni McNamara, four great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, her four sisters: Rose Copeland, Mary Fazara, Helen Ordway and Josephine Arthur plus several nieces and nephews.

During World War II, Carmella worked as a “Rosie The Riveter” at The Depot, Marion.  After the war, she returned home and dedicated the rest of her life to caring for her family. 

Family and friends may call Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors where a prayer service will be held at 2 p.m.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with burial following in St. Mary Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to a luncheon in honor of Carmella immediately following the services at Knights of Columbus Hall, Marion.

The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness and support provided by the staff of Partners of Marion General Hospital Hospice.  There are not enough words to express the gratitude Carmella’s children feel toward the volunteers who gave up many hours of personal time to fill their Mom’s final days with love, kindness and laughter.
