Mark Travis Bartley, age 41, of Mansfield and formerly of Mount Gilead died unexpectedly, early Saturday morning, August 21, 2010 at MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield.
He was born on March 15, 1969 in Mount Gilead the son of Edward Bartley of Bucyrus and Jeanne A. (Hull) Bartley of Mansfield.
Mark attended school both in Waco, Texas and in Mount Gilead where he excelled on the golf course. In Mount Gilead he was a member of the high school varsity golf team that won the State Championship in 1985. The team was an honoree in the Mount Gilead Athletic Hall of Fame.
If you were introduced to Mark it would not take you long to discover his passion for golf. In addition to his success on the links during his school aged days, Mark also worked at Pine Lakes and New Winchester golf courses. He also has had continued success as a competitor, most recently shooting a 1 over par to beat both his brother and his dad at Oak Tree Golf Course. A feat he was very proud of.
Mark was also a fan of the other major sports; baseball, basketball, and football. His loved stemmed from his involvement in those sports in junior high school. In fact, he was an excellent pitcher during those years.
Mark attended Faith Lutheran Church in Lexington and was baptized at the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ as a child.
In addition to his mother and father he will be missed by his brother Joe Bartley and his wife Diana of Winter Spring, Florida; his brother-in-law Rob Robinson and his wife Heather of Edison; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Donald and Natella Hull and Webster and Lola Bartley; twin siblings, Michael and Mia Leigh; and his sister Melissa Robinson in September of 2004.
Friends may call on the family on Tuesday August 24, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 76 North Main Street, Mount Gilead. Funeral services will be held there on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Denis Wittenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.
