Mary C. (Gorenflo) Ferriman, age 87, of Marion died early Saturday morning, August 7, 2010 at Community Healthcare Center in Marion.
She was born on September 11, 1922 in Marion, the daughter of the late Edward and Ruth (Reynolds) Gorenflo.
Mary was a lifelong resident of the Marion community and was graduated from Harding High School with the class of 1940. After graduation she attended Marion College for a short time. It was during this period she served as a volunteer during World War II.
On December 7, 1947, she married Joseph E. Ferriman in Marion. They were married for nearly 40 years before his passing on June 7, 1985.
Mary wore many hats throughout her professional life. She initially started out as the administrative assistant to Frank Schaffner at the Schaffner Furniture Company, later working at Huber Manufacturing and Uhler’s Department Store. Her final stop before retirement was with the Marion City Schools as its financial clerk.
Very faithful to her church, Mary was a member of Crosswood United Methodist Church, formerly Greenwood UMC, where she served many years in the positions of church treasurer and Sunday School teacher.
She held membership in the Business and Professional Woman, Alpha Iota Professional Secretary Sorority, Community Healthcare Center’s Red Hat Society, Marion Senior Citizens Center, the Marion County Ohio State University Alumni Association, and was the past president and treasurer of the T.O.P.S. Chapter, which met at the Forest Lawn Church of Christ.
Mary had many outside interests. She enjoyed playing games of bingo and pinochle. Mary was also an avid fan of both the Cincinnati Reds and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
She will be missed by her daughters Sharon Snyder and her husband Craig of Lebanon, Ohio, Barbara Duvall of Mount Gilead, Ohio, Caryl Phillips and her husband Ronald of Marion, Ohio; and Jacqueline Born and her husband Ronald of Mount Zion, Illinois; 6 grandchildren Heidi Snyder, Kimberly Jenkins and her husband Jeremy, Amy Hundley and her husband Scott, Jennifer Phillips, Shannon Born, and Derek Born; and several brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Ferdinand Gorenflo; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Friends may call on the family on Monday, August 9, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street, Marion. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m. at Crosswood United Methodist Church, 1551 Richland Road, Marion, Ohio 43302 with Rev. Daniel Kiger officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.
