Pastor Sanford D. Hornbeck unexpectedly went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, August 8, 2010.
Sanford Hornbeck was born to Phyllis (Buxton) Gregory and the late Dwight Hornbeck on July 26, 1958.
A life-long resident of Marion, and a graduate of River Valley High School (class of 1976) and Marion Technical College. A devoted husband, father, son, grandfather and pastor. Sanford was happily married to Jean Gandee for 28 years.
His life's passion was to serve the Lord with all his heart, mind, soul and strength. He served as the pastor at Grace Fellowship Church in Prospect, Ohio. He shared the joy of the Lord with everyone he came in contact with. After fighting many battles with his health, he finally achieved the greatest prize promised to man. He gave a sermon on hope the morning of his death to leave comfort to those behind. If one thing could be said of him it would be that his faith in the Lord never failed.
Survived by his wife Jean Hornbeck of Marion, his mother Phyllis Gregory and step-father Lester Gregory, two daughters, Michelle Hornbeck of Marion, Heather (Dana) Dicke of Delaware, a son Dustin Hornbeck of Saint Paris, two grandchildren, Landon and Alexia Dicke. Two sisters Sonya (Tim) Rogers, Ruth Reeve, also Lisa Retterer, and step-mother Betty Hornbeck, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dwight (Ike) Hornbeck and a brother Lyle Hornbeck.
A celebration of Sanford's life and faith will be held Thursday, August 12, 2010 1 PM at Grace Fellowship Church ( 211 E. Water St. Prospect, Ohio) with Pastor Bill Stephens and Pastor Jerry Westerfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Waldo Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, August 11, 2010 from 5 – 8 PM at Grace Fellowship Church.
