Rose (Lofano) Gribble, “our beloved Nanny,” age 88, of Urbana, formerly of Marion, passed away Monday afternoon, August 9, 2010 at the Gables of Green Pastures, Marysville Ohio.
She was born July 8, 1922 in Akron, Ohio, to Onofrio and Maria (Lamanna) Lofano.
She graduated from Garfield High School in Akron, Ohio. Rose has two sisters, Irene Ferguson and Theresa Lofano of Akron.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Owen Gribble in 1999. She is survived by three daughters, Justina Jones and husband Russell of Marysville, Ohio, Erma Reining and husband, Lee of Fort Meyers, Florida and Rebecca Hoffman and husband James of Urbana, Ohio.
Grandchildren are; Michelle Ruthig, Pam King, Mignon Lyons, Jackie McDonald, Paul Jones, Joey VanOver, Wesley Bright, Thomas (Brian) Bright, Heather Stearns, Rosemary Bright, Mary Jones, Sunshine Reining; 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great- grandchildren.
In her youth, Rose and her parents traveled to Italy where she spent most of her childhood. Rose enjoyed a career as a real estate agent, auctioneer, and antique dealer. Rose and her husband Ernest operated “Colonel Rose’s Antique Store” out of their home on North Main Street in Marion, Ohio where they lived for 35 years.
Rose was a member of the National Auctioneer’s Association and the National Association of Realtors. Rose was featured regularly in the Marion Star newspaper where she shared her knowledge by writing articles about antiques. Rose was a budding artist in high school and painted for hobby, but her works were displayed in libraries in both America and Italy.
