Charles G. Blumensheid Jr age 88 of Marion passed away Friday, September 24, 2010 at Kingston of Marion.
Born in Union City, New Jersey, October 8, 1921 to Charles and Caryl (Hartman) Blumensheid.
Charles Jr grew up in Grand Rapids Michigan where he enlisted in the Army and served during WW II in the 106th Infantry Division European Sector. He was taken as a prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge on December 21, 1944, then in May 1945, was rescued by General George Patton's Tank Division.
Upon returning from active duty in Europe, Charles Jr. met his future bride, Mary E. Daum at a USO function in Indianapolis. On October 19, 1946 they were married in Fortville, Indiana.
They have five children: Janet (Stan) Hughes of Phoenix AZ, Roger (Pam) Blumensheid of Dayton Oh, Alan (Debi) Blumensheid of Marion, Bill (Karen) Blumensheid of Grandville, Oh, and Jim (Tammy) Blumensheid of Johnstown, Oh. Charles has twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One grandchild is deceased.
In 1952 Charles joined Whirlpool Corporation at the La Porte Indiana Division, transferring in 1955 to the newly acquired Marion Division where he remained for the rest of his career. While at the Marion Facility he held increasing levels of responsibility: as maintenance engineer, plant engineer, then tooling manager until he retired in May of 1982. Charles was a member of Marion Senior Center as well as the Marion Christian Center.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors with Rev. Stan Hughes Officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.
