Howard Gattshall, age 79, of Claridon died Saturday morning, September 11, 2010 surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 5, 1931 in Cardington, the son of the late Walter F. and Loulabelle (Brenizer) Gattshall.
Howard grew up on the family farm in Cardington where he learned the value of hard work.
After graduating from Cardington High School in 1949 he enlisted in the United States Marines and served during the Korean War.
Shortly after his discharge he married Jo Denzer on January 14, 1955, at the Marion Salem United Methodist Church. They were married for over fifty-four wonderful years before her passing on August 1, 2009.
Howard and Jo took over her family farm in Claridon in the late 50’s, where he was a livestock and grain farmer. He also owned and operated Gattshall Livestock Trucking.
He will be missed by his two daughters: Joni (Floyd) Vanderhoof of Waldo, and their three children: Jill (Jason) Stover of Marion, Jessica (Brian) Troll of Dayton, and Jeni (Matt) Bradley of Wapakoneta; and Connie Schulz of Claridon, and her three children: Cathi, Jeff and Cyndi Schulz, all of Claridon; three great grandchildren: Logan and Payton Bradley and Josiah Stover; two brothers Earl and Jim Gattshall both of Mount Gilead; one sister-in-law, Marge Gattshall of Marion; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers Leo and Carl.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 13, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street, Marion with Rev. Jim VanMeter officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the Marion County Veteran’s Council will follow in Claridon Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
