Ida Francis (Reed) Lavender, 82, of Delaware

Ida Francis (Reed) Lavender, age 82 of Delaware passed away Sunday evening, September 5, 2010 at Arbors of Delaware surrounded by her family.

She was born in Richland County on November 26, 1927 to the late Homer and Erma (Maize) Reed. A lifelong resident of Delaware County, she had resided in Ashley, Radnor, and Delaware. Ida was a cook for Ohio Wesleyan University until she married her husband of 46 years: Bobby E. Lavender Sr. Together they raised a family of six children, Bobby passed away on November 28, 2002.

A woman of faith, she was a longtime member of Fulton Creek Evangelical Friends Church in Richwood.  An avid and championship bowler, she participated in the former Wednesday night mixed league and Sunday late night league.  She had enjoyed an affection for deer’s and collected deer figurines.

She loved to cook and bake; baked beans, noodle surprise, and peanut butter fudge were some of her family’s favorites.  Always willing to help anyone in need, she was happiest surrounded by her family.  She could play any instrument by ear and enjoyed hearing her children sing when they were young.  Ida was a good friend, who gave freely of her time and love.

She was a wonderful mother and grandmother to: Bobby Lavender Jr. of Delaware, Bruce (Shirlie) Lavender of Ashley, Bill Lavender of Delaware, Brent Lavender of Port Clinton, Connie (Norman) Neace of Delaware, and Bryon Lavender of Mt. Vernon, 11 Grandchildren, 15 Great-grandchildren, 1 Great-great-granddaughter, brother: Howard Reed of MN, sister: Ruby Reichart of CA, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers: Phillip, Wayne, Charlie, Homer “Clark”, Richard “Dick” Reed and sister Margie Cramer.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where a service celebrating the life of Ida will be held Thursday 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Joseph Kirby officiating, burial will follow in Radnor Cemetery.
