Lawrence L. Henry, III, age 85, of Westerville and formerly of Galion, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, September 11, 2010 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
He was born on July 7, 1925 in Uhrichsville, Ohio the son of the late Lawrence L. Henry II and Della Mae (Harris) Henry.
Lawrence attended Uhrichsville High School and after graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served two tours of duty. He was trained as a pilot and flew P47 fighter planes during World War II. Lawrence was very proud of his military service.
After his honorable discharge from the service he married Joyce Marie Henry in 1947 in Dennison, Ohio. They were married for 35 years before her passing on March 27, 1982.
Lawrence was an insurance adjuster for Grange Insurance for over 35 years. He covered the Marion and Mansfield areas for most of his career, but was located at the main office in Columbus during his retirement. He was still very active with G.R.E.A.T., the Grange Retirement Association, and enjoyed getting together with his fellow retirees.
He was very fond of his Black Lab, Shelby; his best friend, who would often visit him at his assisted living apartment.
Lawrence was a very social person who’s best times were those spent with his many friends and family members.
He is survived by his four children Terri L. (Robert Thomas) Snyder of Mount Gilead, Toni L. (Larry) Williams of Hayes, Virginia, Tammi L. (Kevin) Smith of Canton, GA, and Lawrence L (Susan) Henry V of Westerville; 8 grandchildren Robert (Masumi) Snyder, Leslie (Jeremy) Westbrook, Michael (Cynthia) Williams, Benjamin Williams, Stephanie (Tim) Martin, Elizabeth (Tom) Adkins, Joy Henry, Matthew Henry; 8 great grandchildren; and two sisters Mary (Sam) DeLavo of Wintersville, Ohio and Jeanne Anne (Vince) Massereli of Mingo Junction, Ohio.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 South Main Street, Mount Gilead. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Snyder Funeral Home with Pastor Don Neumeister officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the AmVets Post #87 and V.F.W. Post #8054 will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
