Marie Bailey, 96, of Marion

Marie Bailey, 96, of Marion, Ohio died on September 27, 2010 in Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio following a massive stroke.

Marie was born August 23, 1914 in Salyersville, Kentucky where she spent her childhood, married and started her family. In the early 1940’s, she moved to Marion with her husband and four children at the time. Her fifth and last child was born in Marion.

Throughout her life, Marie was a hard worker, devoted to raising her children and maintaining a home above all else. She grew large vegetable gardens and beautiful flowers as long as her health permitted it. As a small child, she loved watching the birds in the hills of Kentucky and this love of birds stayed with her throughout her life. She loved the sound of wind chimes and always had a good collection of them.

Marie was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Dulcina Murphy; her husband, Chester A. Bailey; her son, Lewis Bailey; her daughter, Joyce Bailey Lorenzetti; granddaughter, Maria Keaton Patterson; great granddaughter, Dorothy Marker; and daughters-in-law, Mary Bailey and Arlene Bailey.

The members of Marie’s family who are left to cherish many memories of their dear “Mom”, “Mamaw”, and “Grand Me-maw” are her son, Layne Bailey; daughters, Helen Patterson, and Gloria Thornburg; along with fifteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren (two of whom were born on the same day and both were named for her); eleven great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Marie Bailey as we knew her has gone to eternal rest, but her love for her family, her wry sense of humor, and her indomitable spirit will stay with us always in the sound of wind chimes, the singing of birds, and in our hearts.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from 11-1. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM with Reverend David Glauner. Burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery.
