Phyliss A. Hensel, age 75, of Marion, died Friday morning, Septmber 10, 2010, at Marion Manor.

On September 5, 1935, Phyliss was born in Kenton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Paul E. and Cleo Ellen (Cessna) Rish.

She was a graduate of Kenton High School in the Class of 1953.

One evening, Phyliss was set up on a blind date with a young man, Robert Gene Hensel, who had just returned from serving in Korea.  They went on a double date to the drive-in theatre in a convertible, and soon became inseparable.  Phyliss and Bob were married in Kenton on April 23, 1955 and shared over 55 wonderful years as husband and wife.

A woman of strong faith, Phyliss was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church.  She was also involved in the community being active in the River Valley Boosters and helping make needy children’s Christmas bright volunteering for the Junior Service Guild and their Christmas Clearinghouse.

In her spare time, Phyliss enjoyed reading and quilting.  She always had the time of her life traveling.  She and Bob traveled whenever they had a chance, making it to all 50 states.  Her favorite trips were spent riding on riverboats in New Orleans.  For the last 22 winters, she and Bob enjoyed their home at Saddlebag Lake Resort in Lake Wales, Florida.

A loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother, Phyliss’s memory will always be cherished by her family and everyone who knew her.  She will truly be missed.

Phyliss will be dearly missed by her husband, Bob, of Marion; her two children: David and Kelly Hensel of Pickerington, Ellen and Chuck Ficken of Westerville; and five grandchildren.

Phyliss’s family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion.  Services celebrating her life will be held there on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Schuring officiating.  Interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions be made to Marion General Hospital Hospice, 278 Barks Road W., Marion, Ohio 43302.
