Ronald L. “Ron” Patten, age 71, of Marion, died Thursday afternoon, September 23, 2010, at the Partners of Marion Care and Rehabilitation Center.
On October 13, 1938, Ron was born in Marion, Ohio, one of three children of the late Wallace and Edna Grace (Lee) Patten. He graduated from Morral High School in the Class of 1956.
For many years, Ron worked as a security guard in Columbus. And he had formerly worked for Borden Milk as a delivery man.
On March 22, 1964, Ron married the love of his life, Sandra (Sheppard) Patten and they shared over thirty nine years of marriage together. They were members of the Marion Senior Center. She preceded him in death on August 4, 2003.
With a love for the outdoors, Ron and Sandra enjoyed camping together in their trailer they would pull to several different camping grounds with their favorite being the Delaware State Park.
Always a jokester, if Ron wasn’t teasing you, then you knew something wasn’t right.
An avid reader, Ron enjoyed an interesting magazine or a good book, even if it happened to be a romance novel.
A baseball fan, Ron looked forward to watching his beloved Atlanta Braves.
Ron is survived by his son, David Patten of Maine; daughter, Melissa (Chris) Kitchen of Hilliard, and their children: Dane and Kailee Kitchen; a sister, Janet (Don) Schmitt of Marion; three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law: James “Stormy” & Debra Sheppard, Martin Abrams, and Raymond Gilbert, all three of Marion; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Including his wife and parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Max Patten.
Per Ron’s wishes, he has been cremated. His family will have a committal service for him at the graveside in Grand Prairie Cemetery on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Kelly Melvin officiating.
