Jane Smith Peacock, age 98, a life-long resident of Marion, died October 28th, 2010 at her residence at Kingston.
She was born in Marion on July 25, 1912, to the late Lillian (Thoman) and James R. Smith. On August 28, 1937, she married John E. Peacock, who died in 1971.
Jane was a graduate of Marion Harding High School and the Ohio Northern University. She was formerly an English teacher in the Pleasant Middle and High Schools. Following retirement, she was a volunteer at Marion General Hospital and for Mobile Meals.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. John W. (Ruth Ann) of Marion, and Dr. Jeffrey J. (Pamela) of Strongsville. Affectionately known as “Grandma with the Cane” by her grandchildren, Jane is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, William T. Smith, her third son, Joe E., and Joe’s wife Dianne (Moore) Peacock.
Friends may call from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 31, 2010, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. A private burial service will be conducted at the Marion Cemetery, with Hospital Chaplain Dan Kiger officiating.
The family is truly grateful to the nurses and caregivers at Kingston Residence for their many years of compassionate care and friendship while Jane was a resident at their facility.
Memorial contributions in Jane’s memory may be made to the Marion General Hospital Hospice Program or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
