Robert J. Smith, age 74, of Mt. Gilead, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 3, 2010, at his home following a lengthy battle with cancer.
He graduated from the Mansfield Senior High School, class of 1955, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired from The Ohio Brass, Mansfield, after 35 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Bernice Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Persis (Kelner) Smith, a daughter Sharon (Tony) Himler, two grandchildren Zach and Rachel Himler of Marion, one sister, Marilou (Earl) Trouten of Bellville, and a niece, Sylvia McNair of Bloomington, IN.
A graveside service will be held on Monday Oct. 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Bryn Zion Cemetery with Pastor David Carlyle officating.

Snyder Funeral Homes of Mt. Gilead have been entrusted with the arrangements.
