A woman of deep faith, Brenda M. Armstrong Jeffers, went home to be with the Lord early on Friday morning, November 19, 2010. She was only sixty-three years old.
On October 1, 1947, Brenda was born in Mount Victory, Ohio, the daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy Mae (Thomas) Armstrong.
She was raised near New Bloomington where she attended school until they were combined with Elgin High School. She graduated in the Class of 1965.
For nearly thirty years, Brenda worked as an assembler and later as a paint inspector at the Whirlpool Corporation until she retired in 2003. Prior to Whirlpool, she had worked at the Fulfillment Corporation and Landmark.
One day at work at Whirlpool thirty four years ago, Brenda met James L. Jeffers, while he was creatively finding new ways to stay on top of his work. After work they went out to eat together, and the rest is history. After a “short courtship,” Brenda and Jim were married on November 12, 1976, in Marion. They have cherished their time together.
Having an unwavering faith in the Lord, Brenda was proud to share her faith with everyone she came in contact with. She was a lifelong member of the Salem Church of God, where she was an active board member, Sunday School teacher and deaconess.
Since before anyone can remember, Brenda has been an avid and at times fanatical fan of her beloved University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball team.
An animal lover, Brenda had a special relationship with her cat Sissy, her late dog Taz, and “her fourth grandchild, her dog, Sir Timbit Horton.”
For Brenda, her grandchildren were her world. Her favorite times were any time spent with her grandchildren, and she loved spoiling and taking care of them. She also loved to watch them play Upward basketball.
A direct person, there were very few times you did not know exactly how Brenda felt about something. Though she could be very serious, she would also always surprise you with her witty humor.
Despite her ailing and failing body, Brenda never complained. Rather, she would always brighten everyone else’s day telling them to “Never feel sorry for me, because there is always someone worse off!”
Having a huge heart, Brenda deeply loved and cared for her family, friends and her church. Whenever they needed a helping hand, they could count on her to be there.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Jim Jeffers; daughter, Jaime Jeffers; three grandchildren: Tate “Peanut” Steele Jr., Breanna “Mae” Steele, and Joshua Cosey; a brother, Frank (Carolyn) Armstrong, all of Marion; and three nephews: Frank Armstrong Jr., David Armstrong, and Steven Armstrong.
Including her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her brother, William Harold Armstrong.
The Jeffers family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services celebrating her entrance into Heaven will be held on Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Church of God, 5754 DeCliff-Big Island Rd, Marion, with Rev. Willis Moe and Rev. Robert Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Agosta Cemetery in New Bloomington.
Memorial contributions may be made to her church, the Salem Church of God.
