Marion Ellen Harner (Fairchild) Flohr, 79, passed away after a year-long courageous battle against her health issues at Geneva General Hospital in Geneva, NY on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, with her loving family by her side.
There will be a special memorial service at Prospect St. United Methodist at 185 South Prospect St, Marion, OH on Saturday, December 4 with visitation from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and a service to begin at 11:30 a.m.
Born in the town of Crestline, Ohio on October 19, 1931, she was daughter to the late Walter D. and Marion Alice (Ammerman) Harner. Being raised and educated there, she graduated from Crestline High School and went right to work locally. She was employed by the Town of Prospect (Ohio) for many years prior to her starting a new life in Penn Yan, NY, later taking a position as the Water and Sewer Department Manager for the Town of Jerusalem until her retirement.
Marion thoroughly enjoyed visits with family and friends and expressed her love and appreciation of them through her cooking. Her family was a source of inspiration to her and in her later years looked forward to the times when she could be involved and go home to Ohio to cheer on her grandchildren during their sporting events and other activities.
She found a quiet pleasure in doing her crossword puzzles and working in her flower beds. She was a fearless, independent woman, who loved music and embracing every day with a grace and flair all her own.
Marion is survived by her beloved husband of 16 years, John Flohr, of Penn Yan; her children: Jerry (Trisha Beall) Fairchild of Dayton, Jeff (Shannon) Fairchild of Prospect, Jennifer (Todd) McQuistion of Galion; and always held close at heart the memory of her daughter, who went before her; step children: Michelle (Curtis) Covert and Geoffrey Taggart, both of Penn Yan, NY, Johnnie (Bill) Spaulding of Corning, NY and Bill (Judy) Flohr of N. Carolina; as well as her adored grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew, and Eddie Chillik, Brad McQuistion, Julianna Lagattuta, Trey and Hailey Fairchild, Jeffrey and Drew Fairchild; and great-grandson, Kamden Phelps; her sister, Monica (Larry) Foust of Galion, Ohio; and not to forget her special canine companion who brought her much joy, Rudi.
She was preceded by her sister, Marcine Gelvin.
