Barbara L. “Barb” Roberts, 71, of Marion

Barbara L. “Barb” Roberts, age 71, of Marion, died Tuesday morning, December 28, 2010, at her residence surrounded by her loving family following a thirteen year illness.

On February 9, 1939, Barb was born on Greenwood Street in Marion, Ohio, one of seven children of the late William “Bill” and Pauline (Newell) Harris Johnson.

She attended Marion Harding High School.

While raising her four children, Barbara enjoyed staying at home as a loving homemaker.  Also, whenever she was needed she would help her former husband with his trucking business, Roberts Trucking, by driving a dump truck for him.

After her children had left the house, Barb had worked for several years at Olan Mills Photography.

For many years, Barbara has attended the White Oaks Road Freewill Baptist Church.

“Best known simply as Mom or Grandma,” Barb always made sure everyone was taken care of.  Her first priority was always making sure everyone was fed also.  Despite her health troubles for the past thirteen years, she never complained…it was never about her.

Ornery by nature, Barb had fun with everyone, always going along with her family and friends.  She also “saw the best in everyone” and “everyone truly loved her.”  She was one of a kind, and they will cherish her memory forever.

“Grandma” will be dearly missed by her four children: Dorsey “Little Chet” (Sharon) Roberts of Marion, Michael D. Roberts of Waldo, Timothy (Susan) Roberts of Marion, Deloris “Dee” (Tommy Wolford) Roberts of Marion; six grandchildren: Jeremy (Michelle) Roberts, Michael B. (Amanda) Roberts, Timmy Roberts, Lindsey Roberts, Jessica Roberts, and Dominic Roberts; eight great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her parents, Barb was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, and by her former husband, Dorsey “Big Chet” Roberts.

The Roberts family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2010, at the White Oaks Rd. Freewill Baptist Church, 1859 White Oaks Rd., Marion.  Services honoring her life will also be held there on Friday at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Danny Dickerson officiating.  Burial will follow in Caledonia Cemetery.

The Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Roberts family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
