Donald M. Woodward, age 76, of Mount Gilead, died Sunday afternoon, December 26, 2010, at the Morrow County Hospital Extended Care Facility.
On August 11, 1934, Donald was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late Theodore and Juanita Woodward.
Upon his graduation from high school in Cordele, Georgia, Donald enlisted in the United States Marines. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1953 – 1957.
Donald worked for Iberia Fabrication for many years then was a groundskeeper at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Mount Gilead. He performed those duties until his health would not allow him.
Enjoying the great outdoors, Donald hunted raccoon, rabbit and squirrels. He loved to spend time fishing, especially at Kokosing Reservoir. Donald also enjoyed vacationing in Canada, camping on Indian reservations.
A football fanatic, Donald cheered for the Cleveland Browns, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Georgia Bulldogs. He was also a big fan of Westerns, his favorite being “Lonesome Dove.”
Donald will be remembered for his fun, feisty sense of humor. He was always friendly, joking, and had a special admiration for “the ladies.”
Donald will be missed by his wife, Norma C. (Allen) Woodward of Mount Gilead; three children: Dawn Thompson of Mount Gilead, Robert Woodward of Georgia, Dixie Bell of Georgia; six grandchildren: Christopher Thompson II and Ashley Thompson, both of Mount Gilead, Travis, Amber, April, and Crystal Bell, all of Florida; and two sisters: Peggy Little and Floy Queen, both of Georgia.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracy Bell; and two sisters, Lisa Hutto and Patsy Woodward.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service and scattering of his ashes will be held in the spring. Please contact his family for further information.
