Helen Ann Snider Petrich, 94, died Tuesday morning, December 7, 2010, at the Inn at Orchard Park in Bucyrus, Ohio, where she had resided for the past four years.
She was born in Owensville, Clermont County, Ohio, on July 15, 1916, the daughter and only child of the late William J. Snider and Alice Elizabeth Rutledge Snider.
A 1934 graduate of Owensville High School, Mrs. Petrich graduated from Ohio University in 1938 with a B.S. in Education. She attended Penn State University in 1941 after teaching three years in Russia, Ohio, from 1938-1941.
On March 29, 1941, she married Joseph F. Petrich in Russia, Ohio. After their marriage, they moved to Marion, Ohio, where Mrs. Petrich taught in Marion City Schools for twenty one years. She retired in 1975 after many years as a history teacher at Baker Junior High and Baker Middle School.
A member of St Mary Catholic Church, Mrs. Petrich was a volunteer with TWIG III in the gift shop at Marion General Hospital; she was also a member of Artisan's Guild, Marion Retired Teachers Association, and a life member of Beta Sigma Phi. She also spent thousands of hours crocheting caps for newborns born at Marion General Hospital.
Mrs. Petrich is survived by her dear friend and "daughter," Joyce (Tom) Rarick, Bucyrus, Ohio, and "grandchildren" Jamie (Patricia) Webb of Van Vleck, Texas; and Stacey Webb, Marion Ohio; and a "great-grandson", Alexander Joseph Christmas Webb. She is also survived by her godson, John (Barbara) Beach.
Mrs. Petrich was preceded in death by her husband on September 21, 1991. Two sons died in infancy: Timothy Joseph Petrich (1945) and William Joseph Petrich (1952); a daughter, Alice Antonia "Toni" Petrich, died in 1974.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2010, at St Mary Catholic Church with Father Michael Nimocks officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call 4:00 till 6:00 p.m. Friday at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors in Marion, Ohio where parish prayers will be at 4 p.m.
