Vivian M. Griffith, 93, formerly of Marion

Vivian M. Griffith, age 93, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Worthington Christian Village in Columbus, Ohio, where she had been a resident since August 2006.

Vivian and her husband, Charles, lived in Marion, Ohio until 2002 when they moved to Columbus to be near family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Vivian was born October 3, 1917 in Delaware County, Ohio, to the late Arby and Mary Ollie (Miller) Schmelzer.

In addition to her parents, Vivian was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Charles E. Griffith; her daughter, Joyce A. Miller, New Holland, Ohio; sisters, Dolores Rossi, Jacksonville, FL, Margaret Hinaman, Marion, OH; and brother, Patrick Schmelzer, Marion.

She is survived by her daughter, Rita (Roger) Nelson-Park, Delaware, Ohio; son, Michael L. (Ruth) Griffith, Ontario, OH; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; stepson, Richard (Judy) Griffith; five step grandchildren; two step great great grandchildren.

Vivian graduated from Harding High School in Marion, OH in 1935. She had been a member of Community United Methodist Church in Marion for over 40 years where she taught Sunday School and was a member of WSCS and the Susanna Circle. After moving to Columbus in 2002, she maintained her membership at Crosswood United Methodist as an inactive member.

Her love of genealogy was shown as a member of the Marion Genealogy Society for 35 plus years where she held the office of treasurer for 2 years, 1987 & 1988. She was approved for memberships in The First Families of Marion County in 1987, 1990, and again in 1993 having proved descent from ancestors living in Ohio in 1824. She was also a member of the Ohio Genealogy Society and Ohio Historical Society. She was an avid postcard collector as well as a stamp collector.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the Gunder/Hall and Folk Funeral Directors in Marion with Rev. Rafael Velazco officiating. Calling hours will be prior to the funeral from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the funeral services at 1:00 p.m. followed by graveside services at the Marion Cemetery in Marion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Crosswood UM Church or the the Worthington Christian Village.

The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Worthington Christian Village for the wonderful care and may kindnesses they have shown to Vivian and her family.
