Obal W. Dooley, 92, of Marion went home to be with Jesus on Friday, December 31, 2010 at Marion General Hospital.
Obal was born February 4, 1918 in Kentucky to the late Roscoe and Bertha (Borders) Dooley.
He married Henrietta Sparks November 10, 1942 in Greenup, Kentucky; she passed away April 23, 1989 in Savannah, Georgia. Obal then married Maxine Lemley in 1990 in Mt. Gilead; Maxine passed away May 2005 in Marion.
Obal retired after 39 years as an inspector with H.P.M Corp. in Mt. Gilead. He devoted his life to the Lord as a young man and was most recently a member of the Pentecostal Believers in Christ in Marion. He was a frequent guest on the McDonald Family's local gospel television program and loved to play his guitar and sing praises to the Lord. He also loved gardening, baking his famous apple pies and "tinkering" in the garage. One of his greatest joys was teaching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to play music. He will be very sadly missed, but his legacy of faith and music will forever live on in the many lives he touched throughout the years.
Obal is survived by sons, Glenn L. (Thelma) Dooley of Marion, Walter Eugene (Jeanne) Dooley of Galion, and daughter, Connie J. (John) Horner of Marion; 12 grandchildren: Michael Dooley, Brian (Veronica) Dooley, Teri Dooley, Lesa (Jason) Edmister, Stacey Young, Nathan (Alice) Charlton, JJ Dooley, Chad Gregory, Sherri (Micah) DeLaCruz, Aimee (Bill) Schmidt, Zach (Aniso) Ionno, and Andrea Horner; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandsons.
In addition to his parents and wives he was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Thomas; sister, Loretta Hilderbrand; and grandson JJ Dooley.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2010 at 1:30pm at Boyd-Born Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Clifford Hall. Burial will follow at Caledonia Cemetery. Friends and loved ones may visit with the family Tuesday, January 4 from 6-8pm at Boyd-Born Funeral Home.
