Bobbie Jean Wilson, age 69, of Mount Gilead, went to be with the Lord early on Wednesday morning, February 9, 2011, at the Woodside Village Care Center following an extended illness.
On May 25, 1941, Bobbie was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi, the second oldest of eight children of the late Johnie and Ivy Lois (Williamson) Robinson.
Looking for a better life for their family, Johnie traveled to Bucyrus, Ohio and found work. In 1954, the rest of their family boarded a greyhound bus and joined him. Being one of the oldest, Bobbie was looked upon to care for her younger siblings, which always seemed to come naturally to her.
She also worked at the Cussins and Fearns Department store and waited tables at a local restaurant to further help her family. Bobbie graduated from Bucyrus High School in the Class of 1959, and was well known in her younger days for her roller skating prowess.
Shortly after graduation, Bobbie married the love of her life, Verl Lewis Wilson, on January 30, 1960, at Verl’s parents home on Sunfish Road in Mount Gilead. Soon thereafter, Bobbie and Verl too moved to Mount Gilead. Together they lovingly raised two children, Michael and Patty, and shared over forty-seven years of marriage. She lost a piece of herself when he preceded her in death on April 21, 2007.
A loving homemaker, Bobbie always made sure her husband and children were well taken care of.
Having a green thumb, Bobbie enjoyed tending to her “big” vegetable garden, that she made everyone pitch in and help with, especially her children who did so reluctantly. They would often can their crop to enjoy in the winter.
A woman of faith, Bobbie was a member of the Bryn Zion Baptist Church, where she used to help with their vacation bible schools.
Usually the most patient and caring person you could know, Bobbie’s family and friends found she also had a bit of a competitive streak when playing either euchre or Tripoli.
Always putting the needs of others before her own, essentially “all Bobbie ever did was take care of others.” Not only did she care for her younger siblings, her children and grandchildren, she also enjoyed taking care of other’s children at their own home. She absolutely loved babysitting because “she loved the children” and they too “loved her.”
Bobbie will be dearly missed by her children: Michael Lewis Wilson, and Patricia (Tim) Hack, both of Mount Gilead; two grandchildren: Katie and Kyle Hack; two brothers: Paul (Tami) Robinson and William (Pam) Robinson, both of Bucyrus; three sisters: Mary Edwards of Ashland, Pauline Messer of Bucyrus, and Charlene (Glenn) Ross of Chatfield, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine (Paul “Beany”) Bean of Cardington, and Diane Robinson of Bucyrus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her husband and parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her brother, Johnie Robinson; sister, Sadie Bays; and a brother-in-law, Jim Edwards.
The Wilson family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2011, at Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring her life well lived will be held there on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Brian Mosher officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grave Memorial Park in Lexington.
