Daniel L. White, age 62, of Marion, passed away on February 20, 2011, into the arms of his Lord and beloved wife, Mary, with his son Troy Childress at his side.
Dan was born on July 13, 1948, to Joseph C. and Verna Mae Hartley White who preceded him in death.
To his dad he was called Danny Boy. Dan cherished them so much. He carried a deep spot in his heart for elderly people and children that loved him.
Danny served with the Army during the Vietnam War like many of his friends. Later in life, he met and married his friend's widow, Mary Wicker White, and together they raised Dean's son, Martin Troy Childress, into the fine man he is today. Dan was very proud of Troy.
He had a love for old music as well as going to the old car shows and the Cleveland Browns.
He was so proud of the Irish blood that flowed through his veins. Whenever there was a family gathering, Danny was sure to be there for he truly loved his family and friends. He was from a family of nine, but Dan made sure he never got lost in the crowd. He always made his presence known.
Danny was truly blessed with special friends who were always there to lend a helping hand or a kind word to him.
He worked for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad until its closing, then at CSX Railroad until his retirement after 43 years. He was also a member of the Moose and Eagles.
He was Uncle Dan to numerous nieces and nephews.
Danny was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, who passed away on December 4, 2010, and two brothers, Joseph and Verlin.
Danny is survived by his son Troy (Jamie) Childress, grandchildren Ashley Childress, Sierra (Brent) Thomas, and Brittney Slane, four great-grandsons, and six siblings, Warren (Alta) White, James (Irene) White, Hershel (Shirley) White, Virgie (Howard) Edington, Clayton (Marguerite) White and Mary (Jim) Cooper.
