David L. Sparling age 60 of Marion, Ohio formerly of Medford, Oregon passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Marion General Hospital.
He was born December 15, 1950 in Medford, Oregon to Jack G. and Kathleen (Welch) Sparling.
On July 7, 1988 he married Alice J. (Thompson) Sparling.
David attended Marion Harding High School and Medford South High School in Medford, Oregon. He graduated in 1969 from High Bridge High School in High Bridge, NJ. When David was in school at Lincoln Elementary he received the safety patrol award from Gov. Mark Hatfield and was the most outstanding athlete award at Lincoln Elementary School. David was also an avid bowler winning the team event MCBA Tournament in 1979 with Jack Sparling, Steve Sparling, Mike Wagner and Larry Gilliam.
David was formerly employed at Abbotts and Co. as a foreman and retired after thirteen years at Liebert Corporation as a machine operator.
He is survived by his wife, Alice J. Sparling of Marion, OH., his mother, Kathleen Sparling of Marion, OH., four children, Jessica S. (Greg Gullett) Sparling of Marion, OH., KCee A. (Douglas) Tillman of Marion, OH., David L. (Arlene) Sparling Jr. of Marion, OH., Jamie N. (Daryl) McKenzie of Paintsville, KY., six grandchildren, Dairian E. Sparling, Ashton M. Sparling, Nicolie B. Sparling, Ariana A. Sparling, Danielle Sparling, Kayleigh N. McKenzie, his brother, Steve (Bev) Sparling of Marion, OH., his sister, Gina (Don) Warwick of Marion, OH., and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack G. Sparling.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 18, 2011 6 PM at First Free Will Baptist Church, 1449 Crissinger Rd. Marion, Ohio with Pastor Paul Staton officiating. The Boyd-Born Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for the family.
