Opal “Marie” Meadows, 76, of Marion

Opal “Marie” Meadows, age 76, of Marion passed away Thursday evening at Marion General Hospital.

Born in Putman County, West Virginia on November 19, 1934 to Harley “Basil” Grady and Vergie F. (Snyder) Grady, she first married Jessie Kensler who survives in Marion. She later married Brady “Pete” Meadows who preceded her in death as did a step-daughter; Mona Reifsnyder.

Marie would be best known for her cooking skills, having owned the Home Restaurant as well as working as both a cook and waitress at the Oakland Grill, Maury’s and Dino’s. A member of Marion Enterprise Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Eagles and American Legion Post 584 Auxiliary.

Surviving are her 2 daughters; Sharon (Robert Persinger) Kensler and Bonnie Wood (son-in-law; Tom Wood), all of Marion, her son; Gary (Debra) Kensler of Cedaredge, Colorado, 3 step-sons; Larry Meadows, Tom Meadows and Randy Meadows, a step-daughter; Christine Armstrong, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Paul McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow in the LaRue Cemetery. Friends may call Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
