Robert E. Virden Sr., 85, of Marion, died early Monday morning, Sept. 19, 2011, at the Marion General Hospital.
On Sept. 4, 1926, Bob was born in Marion, Ohio, the son of the late Lillian (Mautz) and Merle Virden. He graduated from Marion Harding High School in the Class of 1944.
Mr. Virden was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and graduated from The Ohio State University with degrees in Business and Accounting.
For 25 years, Robert was the treasurer and controller for Wyandot Blacktop, where he retired in 2000.
Bob will be dearly missed by his wife of 60 years, Joan L. Virden of Marion; three children: Linda (Jim) Williams of Pompano Beach, Florida, and their son, Bryan (Renae) Hedelius of Noblesville, IN; Bob (Shelli) Virden of Indianapolis, IN; and Doug (Joann) Virden of Marion, and their daughter, Lauren Virden, attending Ohio State University; a brother, Bill (Karen) Virden of Pickerington, and their children: Scott and Dean Virden and family of Columbus; and a lifelong friend and fraternity brother from OSU Delta Sigma Phi, Robert (Patricia) Sprouse.
The Virden family will greet friends from 2 – 3 p.m. on Wed., Sept. 21, 2011, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion, where services honoring his life will follow immediately at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Colleen Ogle and Rev. Daniel Kiger officiating. Entombment will follow in Marion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Epworth Preschool and Daycare or Marion General Hospice.
