Conrad L. Counts, 62, of Mount Gilead

Conrad L. Counts, age 62, of Mount Gilead, died Sunday, December 18, 2011, at his residence.

On September 15, 1949, Conrad was born in Haysi, Virginia, the son of Bonnie Estelle (Grizzle) Counts and the late Stanford Harmon Counts.  He graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1968.

A man of great patriotism, Conrad served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Conrad was employed on the assembly line at Whirpool in Marion for 35 years, retiring in 2009.

A lifetime supporter of the NRA, Conrad enjoyed his guns and hunting woodchucks.  He liked riding motorcycles and having nice, sporty cars, like the 1969 Chevelle SS he owned for many years.

Conrad spent much of his time reading.  Some of his favorites were the Columbus Dispatch, Time, and National Geographic magazines.  He was smart as a tack and quite the history buff.  He also enjoyed cheering on his Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals.

During the last few years of his life, he developed a close bond with his cats which kept him company in the house.  He will always be remembered for his strong opinionated nature and always living by his beliefs, never swaying.

Conrad will be dearly missed by his mom, Bonnie, of Mount Gilead; his brother, Roger (Evie) Counts of Johnsville; two sisters: Patricia Ann (Ira) Hay of Mount Carmel, Tennessee, Cheryl Santa of Johnstown; and many nieces and nephews.

The Counts family will greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services honoring his life will be held there on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ed Colegrove officiating.  Burial with military honors provided by the V.F.W. 8054 and AmVets Post 87 will be held in Shauck Cemetery in Johnsville.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the National Rifle Association, and may be made in care of the funeral home.
