Phyllis June Ruhl, 78, of Mount Gilead

Phyllis June Ruhl, age 78, of Mount Gilead, died Monday evening, November 28, 2011, at her residence.

On June 18, 1933, Phyllis was born in Galion, Ohio, the daughter of the late Orral and Alma Dale (Patterson) Roshon.  She graduated from Johnsville High School in the Class of 1951.

Shortly following graduation, on June 23, 1951, Phyllis married Lowell E. Ruhl.  Together they have raised five children and shared over sixty years of marriage.

While her children were younger, Phyllis helped Lowell on the family farm and often milked their dairy cows.  She did this until she was able to follow her dreams of becoming a nurse, graduating from the Mid Oho School of Practical Nursing in Mansfield in 1969.  Over the next 25 years she worked as an LPN at the Galion Community Hospital.

Phyllis was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, where she served God playing the piano and organ since she was 12 years old.  She was also active with their women’s missions group, and was currently sewing dresses for children in Haiti.

Putting the needs of others before her own, Phyllis has dedicated her spare time for years to the Crippled Children’s Society of Morrow County where she had been their past president.  She also served as a 4-H advisor for many years.

A talented seamstress, Phyllis could make most anything you could think of.  She made everything from wedding dresses to cheerleader outfits.  She also played organ and piano for many community events and weddings.  While her favorite pastimes were “music and sewing”, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the true loves of her life.

Phyllis will be missed by her husband, Lowell Ruhl of Mount Gilead; five children: Carol (Duane) Williams of Mount Gilead, Gary (Elaine) Ruhl of New Hill, North Carolina, Vicki (Reginald) Reed of Cañon City, Colorado, Michael Ruhl of Montana, and Beth (Jamie) Tucker of Mount Gilead; 15 grandchildren: Nick, Kate, Tarah, Isaiah, Eli, Josiah, Caleb, Taphath, Joshua, Levi, David, William, Lauri, Jarred and Jeremiah; 15 great-grandchildren with more on the way; a brother, Gene (Terri) Roshon of Mount Gilead; two sisters: Joyce Havrilla of Mount Gilead, and Gloria (Charles) Baker of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

The Ruhl family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2011, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, 7197 County Road 46, Mount Gilead, with Pastors Jeff Brunsman and Ray Linn officiating.  Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnsville EMS and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home. For those wishing to express their private condolences to Phyllis’ family online, you may do so by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
