Wahneta Jean Barnes, 85, formerly of Prospect

Wahneta Jean Barnes, age 85, of Radnor, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Grady Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.

Wahneta was born June 28, 1926, to the late Huston and Bernice (Watkins) Ackley of Prospect.

She was a 1945 graduate of Prospect High School.  On October 7, 1947, she married Harold Barnes of Tiffin, the marriage being performed by a former Prospect Methodist minister in Zanesville.  Harold preceded her in death April 23, 1995.

Their married life began on a farm in Tiffin, where Harold had been raised.  Not long after the births of their son, Tim and daughter Sue, they returned to the Prospect area and resided on the farm where Wahneta grew up.

Wahneta was a busy farm wife and loved the excitement of watching her children show livestock at the county fair and the Ohio State Fair.  Of course, years later it was her grandchildren who earned the ribbons with her seated in the front row.  She loved to travel.  She and Harold were fortunate it enough travel to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, and different places in Europe.  She was a fan of baseball, football, and especially basketball. Being a true Buckeye fan, she remembered the names of all her favorite players.  In her later years, she became a great card player and met several times a week with different friends for an afternoon of fun.

She was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church where she served on many committees through the years.  She also enjoyed being a member of the Prospect Senior Citizens.

Wahneta is survived by son, Timothy A. (Deborah) Barnes, Radnor, and daughter Sue A. (Philip) Cunningham, Prospect. She is also survived by three grandchildren Chad (Molly) Barnes, Ashley, Shane (Kim) Barnes, Sycamore, Pa, and Trish (J.B.) Levering, Fredericktown, and great-grandson, Garrett Barnes. She is also survived by brother-in-law George C. Barnes of Bradenton, FL.
