Luis Manuel Perez Sr., 74, formerly of Marion

Luis Manuel Perez Sr., age 74, of Ocala, Florida, and formerly of Marion, Ohio, died peacefully on Saturday morning, January 7, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.

On March 10 1937, Luis was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Manuel and Paula (Diaz) Perez.

He was raised and went to school in Utuado until he was 17 years old, when he moved to New York City.  While there, he met the love of his life, Rosie Velazco, whom he married on February 22, 1962.  They have cherished their nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage together.

In 1969, Luis, Rosie and their children moved to Marion, Ohio.  They resided there until 2004, when they retired to Ocala, Florida.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Rosie Perez of Ocala, Florida; three children:  Gilberto Lopez off Arizona, Eileen Perez of Fairfax, Virginia, and Luis Manuel (Marie) Perez Jr. of Marysville, Ohio.  Five grandchildren:  Nicole Moore, Kymberlynn Lopez, Telena Christian, Matthew Perez, and Annie Lopez.  Five great-grandchildren:  Kanyon and Kiera Perez; Tanner and Cheyenne Moore; Caden Frazier.  Two brothers:  Armando (Nelida) Perez of Utuado, Puerto Rico, and Efrain Perez of New York, New York, and numerous nieces and nephews. Luis was preceded in death by his brother, Alberto Perez, and his infant sister, Edie Perez.

The Perez family will greet friends from 4-7 pm on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center Street, Marion.  Services honoring his life will also be held there on Friday at 11:00 am with his brother-in-laws Rev. Ernesto Velazco and Rev. Rafael Velazco officiating.  Entombment will follow at Marion Cemetery.
