Walter Gale “Bummy” Bumgarner, 77, of the Byhalia area

Walter Gale “Bummy” Bumgarner, age 77 of the Byhalia area died Tuesday evening, January 10, 2012 at OSU Medical Center.

He was born January 26, 1934 in Union County to the late Linfred and Helen (Hughes) Bumgarner.

On November 1, 1974 he married the former Carol Sue Nickel in the York Center United Methodist Church and she survives.

He had worked at Tecumseh for over 31 years before working for Dublin City Schools in the Scottish Corners Building for 11 ½ years.  A 1952 graduate of Richwood High School, he was a veteran of the U. S. Army.  Gale loved gardening and tinkering as well as reading science magazines and fix-it books.  He enjoyed going to auctions and being in the Tecumseh Retirees Group.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, James N. (LouAnne) Grose II, Grapevine, Texas; two daughters,  Pamela Sue Walker, Galion; Regena Ann (Michael) Hall, Morral; a sister, Rosalie Monroe, Mt. Gilead; brothers-in-law, Jack Lane, Columbus; Chuck Johnson, Marysville; a granddaughter, Rachel Dougherty; step-grandchildren, Danielle (Jim) Geyer; Kyle Grose; Holland Grose; and a step-great-grandson, Adrian Geyer.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Bumgarner and two sisters, Marjorie Lane and Carolyn Johnson.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 13, 2012 at 12 noon at Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Jim Gardner officiating.  Burial will follow in Byhalia Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Richwood Area Veterans.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service. 

Memorial gifts may be made to the Spondylitis Association of America (www.spondylitis.org), which is an organization benefiting the research of Spondylitis, a family of spinal arthritic diseases from which Gale suffered.
