Joseph A. "Big Joe" Sansotta age 80 of Marion passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at his residence.
Born in Marion November 13, 1931 to the late Nicola and Catherine (Fuleno) Sansotta.
He was a 1950 graduate of Harding High School. Joe attended Kent State University.
He was a Army Veteran of the Korean War serving from 1951 thru 1954.
Joe was employed by the State of Ohio Department of Right of Way in Delaware, Ohio retiring in 1995. He worked for many years for various realty companies in Marion. He was also owner and operator of Sansotta Appraisal Service and continued that business until 2011. Joe was also a real estate developer and developed areas in Kenton, Ohio and London, Ohio. He was also on the zoning commission in Marion.
Joe was a member of St Mary Church, Past member of 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He was past president of Club 75 Dance Club. He loved music, sports and on Sunday afternoons watching his son Nick coach the Jets. On a daily basis he did his tour of Marion. Joe enjoyed traveling to Ft Lauderdale, Myrtle Beach, and Niagra Falls.
Joe is survived by Nicholas A. Sansotta, Joseph A. "Terri" Sansotta, Stanford F. Sansotta, and Debrah "Randy" Myers all of Marion, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. one brother Phillip "Maura" Sansotta of Boise, Idaho, two sisters Eleanor "Troy" Fennig of Decatur, Indiana, Lucrecia Baker of Ft Myers, Florida.
Preceding Joe in death are his wife Mary E. Sansotta who passed away August 21, 2009, one daughter Lee Ann Sansotta Stuckert, two brothers Dominic (Mickey) Sansotta, Clarence (Clancey) Sansotta, and one sister Catherine Romeo.
Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2012 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors with Parish Prayers at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at St Mary Church with Father Michael Nimocks officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery with the Marion County United Veterans Council conducting Military Honors.
