Pauline I. Styer, 85, of Mt. Gilead

“A saint on earth”, Pauline I. Styer, went to be with her Lord and Savior early on Sunday morning, February 5, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.  She was 85 years old and of Mount Gilead.

On September 4, 1926, Pauline was born in Kokomo, Indiana, one of nine children of the late James and Mary Ethel (Tribell) Rose.

She graduated from Middlesboro High School in the Class of 1944.

Shortly after graduating, Pauline married a young veteran, Charles Styer, on May 16, 1947, after he had returned from the war.  Then, in 1956, they moved as a family to a farm they bought in Mount Gilead.  Together they lovingly shared over 49 years of marriage.  He preceded her in death on September 2, 1996.

In addition to helping on the family farm and caring for their home, Pauline worked as an assembler at Delco Electronics in Kokomo, Indiana.  Later, she worked as a manager, alongside her husband, Charles, at the Certified Gas Station Route 42 in Mount Gilead.

A woman of deep faith, Pauline felt as if her “calling in life was to share and teach God’s word”.  Whenever her family and friends had any concerns, they would be sure to call her first for her prayers and support.  Very active in her religious beliefs, she enjoyed holding Bible studies with anyone around.

Taking pride in being the matriarch of the family, Pauline truly cherished every moment when her family was around her.  She was dedicated to and actively involved in all of their lives.  Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye, “she loved them and they loved her”.  They all had special stories about their “MeMaw”, stories of snipe hunting in the corn fields, and other ways she spoiled and loved on them.

She will be dearly missed by her three children: David (Carol) Styer, Terry (Joe) Roush, both of Mount Gilead, and Mary (Charles) Owen of Westerville; seven grandchildren: David (Jeannie) Styer, Mike (Bobbi) Peters, Christy (Chris) Stinehelfer, Jason (Sheena) Weber, Terra Strahm, Charlie Owen IV, and Melissa Owen; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Dovie) Rose; three sisters: Juanita Jones, both of Middlesboro, KY, Zeradean Johnson of Kokomo, IN, and Patty Harrington of Mt. Home, AR; two brothers-in-law: Robert (Bonnie) Styer and Jack Styer; six sisters-in-law: Annabelle Hankins, Patty (John) Graves, Dorothy (Dean) Emmons, Helen (Dale) Bowersmith, Jane (Ralph) Bartlett, and Ethel Styer; and oodles of nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents, Pauline was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Shane Peters and Nikki Owen; three brothers: James, Robert and Herman Rose; and two sisters: Geneva Rose and Opal Flannery.

The Styer family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Burial will be observed privately in Bryn Zion Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South St., Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338.
