Crystal Arlene “Tudy” Stevens, 84, of Marion

Crystal Arlene “Tudy” Stevens, age 84, of Marion, died peacefully on Sunday evening, March 25, 2012, at her residence following an extended illness.

On September 11, 1927, Tudy was born in Waldo, Ohio, the youngest of two daughters of the late James Edgar and Mary Opal (Rowsey) Wyatt.  She was born on the original Wyatt family homestead, which is one of the first homesteads established in Marion County.

She graduated from Central High School in the Class of 1945.

Immediately following graduation, Tudy and Donald Stevens eloped to be married in Greenup, Kentucky, on June 9, 1945.  Together they lovingly raised two children, Carolyn and Richard, and shared over 57 years of marriage.  He preceded her in death on May 25, 2003.

For over 10 years, Tudy worked at the Fulfillment Corporation in Marion, where over the years she was promoted to being a supervisor.

A woman of faith, Tudy was a member of the Prospect Street United Methodist Church and formerly of the Wesley United Methodist Church.  She was also the past president at the Women’s Club Home.

Having “a green thumb”, Tudy thoroughly enjoyed “playing in the dirt” and planting her flower garden every year.  She also was a member of the Marion Garden Club.

With a love for traveling, Tudy and Donald would pack the children in the car and hit the road, visiting most of the states all over North America.  On their travels they made sure to bring home a rock for their collection in the back yard, and she would remember the significance of each rock.

With a zest for life, Tudy squeezed every last drop of enjoyment out of her life.  Tudy was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan.  And she always thought about her family first, “above all else”.

She will be dearly missed by her two children: Carolyn (Larry) Steffey of Marion, and Richard (Nancy) Stevens of Wichita, KS; four grandchildren: Brent (Anna) Stevens of Brooklyn, NY, Mark Stevens of Ethiopia, Shawn (Daphne) Plumley of Wyoming, and Kelly (Brian) Strunk of Bangalore, India; five great-grandchildren: Danielle, Dustin, Sarah, Jonathan and Mary Kate; two great-great-grandchildren: Madison and Brier; and a sister, Peggy Massier of Marion.

The Stevens family will greet friends from Noon to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion.  Services celebrating her life will follow there at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Dale Baker officiating.  Burial will then follow in Marion Cemetery.

On behalf of the Stevens family, they would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to the wonderful staff with the Marion General Hospital Home Health program who treated their mother like she was a part of their family for the past two years.  They are also grateful for the tender care given by Marion General Hospital Hospice the past week.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion General Hospital, c/o Home Health or Hospice, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home. Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to serve Tudy’s family, and your private condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
