Rev. William J. Houck age 82, of Marion, OH passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Marion Manor Nursing Home.
He was born March 26, 1929 in West Jefferson, NC to William Henry and Martha (Lewis) Houck.
On February 3, 1947 in Elkin, NC, he married Nancy A. Wood and they have been married for 64 years.
He is a US Air Force veteran and served from 1946 to 1949. Rev. Houck was an Office Manager and Accountant for 11 years.
He was a graduate of Clevenger Business College, N. Wilkesboro, NC, Berean Home Study Courses; Beulah Heights University – B.A.; International Theological College – M.A. He was a pastor for 40 years: Joy Light Mission – Mt. Airy, NC; International Pentecostal Assembly, Flint, MI; Hartford Full Gospel Assembly, Hartford, MI; Lake Michigan Beach Community Church, Benton Harbor, MI; Beulah Heights Tabernacle, Atlanta, GA; Marion IPCC (21 years).
William also served as President at the Beulah Heights Bible College, was a member for the Board of Directors, BHBC, 1976-1996, was editor of Bridegroom’s Messenger, IPCC General Secretary, 1976-1981, was a candidate for General Overseers (the only one since 1976 who did not serve, yet stayed with us.) He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Ministerial Benefit Policy from 1998-present, and was a member for the Central District Board – 2005-present.
His community involvement included being a regular guest presenter on an Atlanta TV station for early morning devotions. He served as a volunteer chaplain at an Atlanta Hospital. In Marion, he was a poll worker on Election Day and networked with local ministers at weekly breakfast meetings.
He is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Steven Anthony) Rabern of Fayetteville, GA, and Bonnie (Irby) Payne of Mount Airy, NC; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and seven sisters.
Calling hours are scheduled for Tuesday March 20, 2012 from 4-8 PM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Funeral services are slated for Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 2PM at the Marion IPCC Church on Fountain Street and will be officiated by Revs. Clyde Hughes, Ervin Hargrave, and Richard Blevins. A graveside service and internment will take place at a later date in Georgia.
