John J. Short, 75, of Marion

John J. Short age 75 of Marion, Ohio passed away Friday, April 27, 2012 at Marion General Hospital.

He was born January 22, 1937 in Marion, Ohio to the late John J. Short and Virginia (Williams) Short-Howison.

On December 28, 1956 he married Barbara S. (Fruth) Short.

John took great pride in being a firefighter for the City of Marion. He joined the department in 1961 serving as a firefighter, EMT, and for his last 18 years with the department as the Marion City Fire Inspector. He retired as a Captain after 39 years. John greatly enjoyed meeting thousands of people throughout his career promoting fire safety. He was a member of Moose Lodge #889 and former member of Marion Evening Lions Club and Marion Harding Booster Club. John never failed to touch each person he met. His warm personality, dedication, sense of humor, and wit will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara S. Short of Marion, three sons, Mark (Patricia) Short of Bloomfield Hills, MI., Kevin (Tammy) Short of Hilliard, OH., Matthew (Lori) Short of Worthington, OH., seven grandchildren, Kelly, Katie, Jennifer, Abbey, Isaac, Molly, and Cameron, a brother, Harold (Gloria) Short of Marion, OH., a sister, Judy Griffith of Marion, OH., sister in law, Becky (Bob) Hunker of Fostoria, OH, and numerous nieces and nephews. John adored his family and was always a special Pappaw to his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Short.

Funeral services for John will be held Tuesday, May 1 , 2012 @ 11 AM at Crosswood United Methodist Church,( 1551 Richland Rd.) with Chaplian Kenneth Durtsche and Rev. Brooke Hilliard officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Monday, April 30, 2012 from 4 – 8 PM at Crosswood United Methodist Church. The Boyd-Born Funeral Home is handling the arrangememnts for the family.

The Short family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Safety City of Marion, 123 East Mark Street, Marion, Ohio 43302.
