Shirley Jerew, 75, of Richwood

Shirley Jerew, age 75 of Richwood died Friday morning, April 6, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving and devoted family.

She was born January 18, 1937 in Richwood to the late Scott and Sylvia (Evans) Beeney.

On October 9, 1955 she married Robert N. “Bob” Jerew at the Richwood Church of Christ and he died May 19, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ernie Beeney.

A homemaker, she was a 1955 graduate of Richwood High School. She had worked as a cook at the Claibourne Elementary building, and had worked at Marblcast and Kale Marketing in Richwood. For years she was known for making cakes and cookies for special occasions for many people in the area. She was a member of the Richwood Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and a former active member of the Gold Wing Riders Association.

Some of the joys of her life were mowing her lawn and keeping her home looking nice. Christmas was a very special time for Shirley, and she always tried to make it special for her family. She also had a sweet tooth, always eating ice cream at least once a night. But the most important thing in life for Shirley was taking care of her family, whom she deeply loved.

She is survived by a son, Scott (Kelly) Jerew, Richwood; a daughter, Pam Simpson (Michael Murray), Richwood; three grandchildren, Karie Whitmore; Gus Jerew (Katie Landis); Harley Jerew (Chad Hemminger); one great-grandson, James Whitmore; sisters-in-law, Norma Beeney, Richwood; Grace Jerew, Richwood; Patty Bassinger, Kenton; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Jerew, Byhalia; Jerry (Delores) Jerew, Green Camp; special friends, Elmer Simpson and John Whitmore; devoted caregivers, Tina McDonald, Calista McDonald and Maxine Murray; nieces and nephews, Bud (Amy) Beeney; Lynn (Shelley) Beeney; Karen (Rob) McMahan; Doug Beeney and the many Jerew nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Dale Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
