Alfred H. Coleman, age 90, the son of the late Anthony and Ida (Angel) Coleman died Saturday, May 26, 2012 at his home. He was born on June 10, 1921 in Appomattax, VA.
On August 7, 1943 he was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart, the love of his life, Lucille A. Taylor; who preceded him in death on November 17, 2009.
He was also preceded in death by his beloved brothers William, John, James, Joseph, and Hoarace; and his beautiful sisters Elizabeth and Clara.
He served in the US Army during World War II. He owned and operated a Janitorial Service from which he retired. Mr. Coleman was an amazing man who dedicated his life to his wife and children. He loved to build and fix thing. The life he lived spoke more than any words could say.
Over the course of Alfred and Lucille life together nine children were born and raised in Charleston (Rand), WV: Sheila L. Coleman of OH, Zaida E. Walker of WV, Gregory H. (Geraldine) Coleman of OH, Deborah L. Barron of OH, Ferne A. (Allester) Alexander of Il, Roxann D. (Lamont) Shelton of OH, Keith D. (Kim) Coleman of OH, Todd W. (Lenele) Coleman of OH and Carmen G. (Michael) Megginson of OH. Also raised under his loving touch were Annette Jackson, Carl White, Jerry Stweart, and Calvin Mopkins. He has 23 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Family will receive friends Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Kings Temple Apostolic Church, 285 Senate St., Marion, OH, from 11 AM until 12 noon. Marion County United Veterans Council Services will be held at noon followed by a Funeral Service with Rev. Dannie Harris. Burial will follow at Chapel Heights Memory Garden.
