Blanche R. Long, age 99, of Edison and formerly of Columbus, died on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Morrow County Hospital following an extended illness.
Blanche was born on May 21, 1913, the daughter of the late Jacob Loretta Bailey. She was a graduate of the Columbus School Systems.
For over thirty five years, Blanche worked at the American Cattle Jersey Association in the office. She also opened her own home hair salon to cut and style hair on the side.
On May 18, 1985, Blanche married Thomas “Wallace” Long and shortly thereafter they moved to the Long farmstead in Edison. They shared over 11 years together, until he preceded her in death on January 25, 1997.
One of a kind, Blanche had a fun loving and witty charm about her that always made you laugh. She also wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, but that was just another thing that made her special.
Having a heart of gold, Blanche was always there for you when you needed her, as she was when she took in her great-granddaughter, Anna, when she was in her 70’s. She also dearly loved spending time with and playing with her beloved great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and by her loving caretaker and great-grandchild, Anna Stamper and her fiancée Marcus Owens of Edison, and their children: Preston, Brooke, and Lilianna Erwin, and Ethan and Markie Owens.
Including her husband and parents, Blanche was preceded in death by her daughter, Juanita Gattshall; and her siblings.
Honoring her request, services will not be observed.
