Sally A. Hempy-Rittenhouse, 73, of Prospect

Sally A. Hempy-Rittenhouse, age 73, of Prospect, passed away on Sunday morning, June 3, 2012, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Sally was born on November 23, 1938, in Marion, to Harley S. and Anna K. (Schroll) Toombs. She was raised in Marion and attended Harding High School.

After school, she worked in the Elgin School District as a bus driver and she also spent several years working along side her daughter, Debby, as a landscaper. The family also owned and operated the Prospect Dairy Bar for many years, where the banana splits were famous.

Sally was a former member of the Eastern Star. She will always be remembered for her love of flowers, gardening and taking great pride in her yard.

Those she leaves to honor her memory include her mother Anna K. Toombs, whom she dearly loved; her children: Judy (Frankie) White, Debby (Bill) Williams, Mark (Tina) Hempy and Paul David (Laurie) Hempy; 3 step-children: Andy (Paige) Rittenhouse and family, Chad (Paige) Rittenhouse and family and Angie Maynard; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one sister Shirley Smith; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Roscoe.

She is preceded in death by her father Harley Toombs; her husband John “Butch” Rittenhouse, Jr. and 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Sally requested that no services are to be held for her, and the family is honoring her request.
