Grace Lucille Cupani, age 98, of Marion died Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Heartland of Marion. She was born August 11, 1913 at the family home on St. James Road near Waldo to James Cunningham and Mary Ella (Rogers) Cunningham. She married Charles P. Cupani on December 31, 1942 and he died May 13, 1987. The Cupani’s owned the Dairy Bar at Bargain City and sometime prior to that co-owned the Ritz Bar & Grill on South Main Street.
Grace graduated from Waldo High School in 1931 and attended Capital Business College in Columbus. She was a member of St. Mary Church and the Daughters of Isabella. Nice clothes and fur coats were a priority; she enjoyed eating out and loved her cats Ginger, Smokey, and Blackie. When the car wheels were turning, she was ready to “GO!”
Preceded in death by her mother and father when she was six years old, she was an only child. She is survived by three nieces of her husband, Rosalie (Robert) Wallace of Hicksville, Long Island, NY, Antoinette (Joseph) Ferguson of Surprise, AZ, and Maria Alaimo of Buenos Aires, Argentina; God Children Joann (Robert) Pacenti of Naperville, Il., and Dan (Barbara) Hrehov of Seattle, WA; a numerous friends and care-givers.
At her request, no calling hours will be observed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30AM Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at St. Mary Church with concelebrants Fr. Michael Nimocks and Fr. Dwayne McNew. Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Church or Marion County Human Society.
