Jean Kathleen Lister, 89, of Marion

Jean Kathleen Lister, age 89, of Marion, died peacefully on July 25th 2012 at the Kingston Residence of Marion following a brief illness.

On March 5, 1923, Jean was born in Columbus, Ohio, the only child of the late John and Clara (Evans) Nelson.  She graduated from Columbus West High School in 1941.

While Jean was attending Ohio State University, she married Richard E. “Dick” Lister, of Marion, on November 20, 1943, in Richmond, Indiana, while he was on leave from the Army Air Corp.  They shared over 61 wonderful years of marriage and lovingly raised three children.  Dick preceded her in death on August 10, 2005.

In 1945, Jean graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Nursing, where she also was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.  Soon thereafter the couple moved to Marion. When all her children were in school Jean began her working career as a science teacher at Edison Junior High.  She dedicated herself to her students for over 25 years before retiring in 1981.  She had been a member of the Marion Educational Association, Ohio Educational Association, then later the Ohio Retired Teachers’ Association.

Jean enjoyed working with her hands and was an accomplished knitter and quilter.  Friends and family alike, cherish her handmade dishcloths and quilts.  For years she met every Wednesday with her quilting group at the Central Christian Church.
She was an avid reader with a wide variety of interests and she had an inquiring mind, keeping every detail of her life well organized.

Jean and Dick enjoyed traveling and did so extensively around the world for many years.

Most importantly, she will be remembered for being simply “a great mom”.

Jean will be dearly missed by her three children: Cheryl Lister of Avon Lake, Ohio, Tom (Sally) Lister of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, and Elizabeth Revell (special friend, Bill Di’Orio) of Lexington, Kentucky; four grandchildren: Chris Assenheimer, Dr. Matthew (Dr. Nicole St. Clair) Lister, Joshua Lister, and Zach (Cassie) Revell; and three great-grandchildren: Hannah Claire Lister, Brooke Nicole Lister, and Miyo Revell.

A woman of faith, Jean was a member of the Community Methodist Church and later the Trinity Bapist Church.

Memorial services celebrating Jean’s life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church, or the Marion Area Humane Society, and, along with condolences may be sent to the care of the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home; www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
