Marcel “Kay” Hollifield, 74, formerly of Mount Gilead

Marcel “Kay” Hollifield, age 74, formerly of Mount Gilead, passed away on Thursday evening, July 5, 2012, after courageously suffering a long battle with cancer at the Harding Pointe in Marion.

On January 19, 1938, Kay was born in Lincolnton, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Yule Hill and Zonie (Massengill) Shirley.

After she graduated from high school in North Carolina, Kay met the person she enjoyed sharing her life with, Clifton Hollifield in Delaware. They later moved to Mount Gilead, and he never left her side through thick and thin, and was there beside her when she passed away.

For many years, Kay worked as an accountant with Campbell Auto Supply in Mount Gilead.

In her younger years, Kay loved to go dancing and she and Clifton could be found enjoying an evening on the riverboats gambling and enjoying life.  Wherever she went, she was “always dressed to the nines.”

She will be missed by the love of her life, Clifton Hollifield of Mount Gilead; her three children: Donna Sherman of Mount Gilead, Zonie Compton of Marion, and Sidney Garrett Lane of Mount Gilead; her grandchildren: Dea White, Kelli Compton, Lacey Compton, Jadelyn  Buckley, Savannah Lane and Marcy Taylor; her great grandchildren: Nathan, Brystyn, Deylon, Ryland, Kylie and Kalee; her sister, Bobbi Shipton of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Including her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her siblings: Leon Hill, Robert Hill, Madeline Hill and Charles Shirley.

Her family will greet friends from 4 – 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at the Cardington Community Center, 111 W. Second St., Cardington, Ohio 43315.  Services celebrating her life be held there at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Donna Ball officiating.  A meal in Kay’s honor will immediately follow her services.

Memorial contributions may be may in care of her family to help with unexpected expenses.
