Mary E. Blumensheid, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary Eleanor was born on June 23, 1924 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the only child of Jessie May Grues and Carl Daum.
She married Charles G. Blumensheid in October 1946 and he preceded her in death in September 2010. She is survived by her daughter, Jan (Stan) Hughes; sons Roger (Pam); Alan (Debi); Bill (Karen); and Jim (Tammy). Mary has twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. One grandchild is deceased.
During World War II, Mary sang with the USO to entertain and lift the spirits of the U.S. troops. She also visited servicemen in hospitals where she met her future husband Chuck. She was a long time resident of Marion, Ohio. She was involved in several school and community organizations including forming the Marion Senior Citizen Center and was a long time member of Marion Christian Center. She lived at Kingston Residence at the time of her death.
Family will receive friends 2PM to 4PM on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors, 347 W Center St. Service will be observed 10AM, Monday, July 9, 2012 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors with Rev. Stan Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery. All donations can be made in care of the family through Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors.
