Patricia L. “Patty” Lyons, age 84, of Mount Gilead, went to heaven to be reunited with her one true love, Francis, late Friday evening, July 6, 2012, at her residence following an extended illness.
On February 17, 1928, Patty was born in Mount Gilead, one of three children of the late Benjamin Milton and Dorothy (Loren) James. She graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1946.
Shortly following high school, Patty married the love of her life, Francis Delmer Lyons on May 15, 1949, at the Methodist Church in Greenup, Kentucky. They shared over 36 years together, until he preceded her in death on June 21, 1985.
For many years, Patty worked as a deli meat and cheese clerk at the Ice Locker, Dairy Mart, Lawsons, and most recently the Town Pump in Mount Gilead, until her retirement in 1986. She also was one of the first dispatchers to have ever served in Morrow County.
Including the many jobs she had, Patty also took pride in being a homemaker, taking care of her husband and two children. Always putting the needs of her family first, she even helped take care of her aunts in their later stages of life.
Patty had been a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Giliead.
She will be dearly missed by her two children: Rebecca S. (Richard E. Reeves) Lyons of Westerville, and Bradley James (Cathy) Lyons of Cardington; one sister, Joan (James) Hager of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
Including her husband and parents, Patty was preceded in death by her brother, Benjamin “Bud” James.
The Lyons family observed services privately at the Rivercliff Cemetery in Mount Gilead, with Rev. Lori Burdette-Steele officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 685 Delaware Ave., Marion, OH 43302.
