Richard E. Probst, age 95, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2012, at Primrose of Marion.
Richard was born on February 4, 1917, in Marion, to the late John P. and Emma Probst. The brother of J. Edwin Probst, who preceded him in death.
Dick attended the Marion City Schools and graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1930. He then attended Wittenburg University and graduated from the Ohio Wesleyan University in 1939. He was a member of the Phi Delta Beta Fraternity.
In 1940, Dick married Helen M. Fields. Dick was and remains the Chairman, President and Treasurer of Probst Supply Company and was a former President of the Marion Red Cross, board member of the Marion YMCA, board member of the Marion Area Boy Scouts, member of the Board of Directors of Marion County Bank and Bank One, board member Marion area Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the Marion Cemetery. He was a founding board member of the Community Memorial Hospital/Med Center Board of Governors. He also belonged to the Epworth United Methodist Church, the Marion Country Club the Catawba Island Club plus various Masonic bodies.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Linda J. Meister; son, John P. (Judy) Probst II and a grandson, John P. (Jill) Probst III.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at the Marion Cemetery at 11AM. Family and friends may gather at the front gate on Delaware Avenue at 10:45AM. Rev. David Hoffman will be officiating.
