Robert W. “Bob” Anderson, 75, of Marion

Robert W. “Bob” Anderson, age 75, of Marion, died peacefully on Friday morning, August 3, 2012.

On February 19, 1937, Bob was born in Marion, Ohio, the son of the late Harold Sr. and Ruth (Seiter) Anderson.

He attended Pleasant School, and left two weeks short of graduating to enlist in the U. S. Air Force to serve his country.  He was stationed at Samson Air Force base and also was stationed in Japan.

Upon his honorable discharge, Bob returned to Marion, where he worked at Tecumseh Products for 23 years as a millwright.  For several years, he also owned and operated the Pure Oil Station on N. Main St., and he later worked at Comibloc in Columbus, until his retirement in 1999.  Bob was skilled in many trades, and he also served in the UAW union.

On February 25, 1967, Bob married Mary VanScoy in Clintwood, Virginia, and they were blessed with three children.

A proud grandfather, Bob was also blessed with three grandsons and one granddaughter, and they were all a joy to his life.  He was known as their Pee Paw, a name he carried with great pride.  As his son, David, placed each of his sons in his dad’s arms, Bob sang You Are My Sunshine to each grandchild.  They were truly the sunshine of his life.

It was Bob’s wish to be remembered as a kind and gentle man that never fought back.  His family can honestly attest that he met his goal.  He always took the high road.  He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life.  He spent 20 some years in Marblehead, enjoying his cabin and on Lake Erie in his boat fishing with his brother-in-law and dear friend, Dick Bernardy.  After his health would not allow that hobby, he took great pride in his yard and his flowers.  He loved his dogs and will long be remembered carrying his little black Pom Miss Mimi Marie on his arm at the garage sales.  He always liked to hear his dog was beautiful.  It would always make his day.

A country man at heart, Bob had horses, cows, rabbits, and his all time favorite gift of three pet roosters from his daughter, Carla.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary Anderson of Marion; four children: Patricia (Donald) Pritchard of North Carolina, Carla Anderson of Marion, David (Rebecca) Anderson of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, Sheri (Guy) Lagendyk of Powell; three grandsons and one granddaughter: Evan William Anderson, Jacob David Hayes Anderson, and Joshua Robert Rhea Anderson, and Adriana Pritchard; one sister: Bette (Tom) Morgan of Marion; two sisters-in-law: Madge (Dick) Bernardy of Clearwater, Florida, and Pat Anderson of Fostoria; and several nieces and nephews.

Including his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Anderson Jr.

The Anderson family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion.  Services honoring his life will also be held there on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m., with Hospital Chaplain Daniel Kiger officiating.  Burial with military honors provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council will follow in Marion Cemetery.

In Bob’s memory, his family asks that you go out and be kind to another person for him.  He would greatly appreciate that, as he believed in kindness.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central Ohio, American Cancer Society or the Marion Area Humane Society, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.

Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to serve Bob’s family and your private condolences may be expressed to them online by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
