Steve Hogg, Jr. age 77, of Marion, OH passed away Sunday August 5, 2012 at his home, after a long illness.
He was born January 27, 1935 in Kingstreet, KY to the late Stephen and Mabel (Bush) Hogg.
On March 14, 1954, he married Janis M. Cavanaugh in West Virginia, and she survives.
Also surviving are three children, Stephanie (Tim) Brown, of Upper Sandusky, OH, Kelly Holtz, of Marion, OH, and Steve (Nicole) Hogg, of Marion, OH; seven grandchildren, Craig Rizer, Robert Morris, Dylan Bourbonnais, Richard Holtz, Steve Hogg, Krystal McMahan, and Nicholas McMahan, and two great-grandchildren, his sister, Doris (David) Schumaker of Maryland, and his brother, Kelly Hogg, also of Maryland.
Besides his parents, Steve was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Steve was in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, serving from 1953-54.
Steve started with Marion Baseball For Youth to coach his son in 1968, then became president of that organization in 1974. He later retired from MBFY after more than 40 years. Steve created Marion Midget Football in 1973. He started Baseball For Youth Bingo in 1982, and he was the founder of Continental Amateur Baseball in 1983. Steve was honored as "Person of the Year" in 1992 by CABA. In addition, he received a "Citizen of the Year" award by the City of Marion in 1980.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 11 AM at the Marion Baseball For Youth Bingo Hall at 506 Leader Street. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Shawn Jackson. Burial will immediately follow at the Marion Cemetery. Friends may call at the Marion Baseball For Youth Bingo Hall on Wednesday August 8, 2012 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.
