Gloria “Jean” Williamson, age 77, of Mount Gilead, died Monday evening, September 3, 2012, at the Woodside Village Care Center following an extended illness.
On October 11, 1934, Jean was born in Frankfort, Ohio, the second of eight children of the late John Newton and Monnie May (Justice) Virgin.
A loving mother and homemaker, Jean dedicated her life to her children. She did whatever she could to provide for them and make sure they were taken care of.
For many years, she ran her own record store on Yale Avenue in Columbus, Gloria’s Christian Record Shop. In the early 1990’s, she moved to Morrow County, where she also worked as a bookkeeper and Avon Lady, until her retirement.
With a love for music, Jean could often be found singing, playing and listening to her favorite gospel hymns. She also enjoyed tending to and caring for her garden.
An avid reader, Jean would read most anything she could get her hands on, but was especially fond of sci-fi, romance and mystery novels. She also enjoyed watching sci-fi television shows, with Star Trek being her favorite.
A unique and cantankerous woman, Jean was very passionate about what she believed in and was never afraid to speak her mind about it either.
She will be missed by her two sons: Dennis Williamson of Martha, Kentucky, and Lewis Dean (Annette) Williamson of Mount Gilead; two adopted daughters: Shirley (Frank) Riley of Columbus, and Kimberly (Randy) Bratcher of Martha, Kentucky; nine grandchildren: Carolyn Amos, Brandon and Austin Williamson, David Caldwell, Ronnie Caldwell, Ashley (Josh) Collins, Micheal Meyer, and Logan and Olivia Stafford; numerous great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers: John (Betty) Virgin Jr. of Chillecothe, Eula (Richard) Crace of Toledo, Bonnie (Philip) Weinrich of Wickenburg, Arizona, Robert (Judy) Virgin of Chillecothe, and Cathy (Charles) Eaton of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, Jean was preceded in death by two siblings: Phyllis Park Ely, and Gary Virgin; and her former husband and good friend, John Williamson.
Private services will be observed by her family at a later date.
